Loan Period and Fines

Loan Period

Materials are generally loaned for a period of 21 days.  You may borrow up to 2 DVDs per card and there is an overall limit of 40 items per library card. Materials taken out at the Slave Lake location may be returned to any TRAC library.

Renewing Items

You can renew a book if you need to keep it longer only if there are no holds on the item. This can be done by:

  • Accessing "My Account" located online in the library catalog. You will need your library membership barcode and your PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number).
  • At the library circulation desk
  • Phoning the library 780-849-5250
  • Emailing Ivy at the circulation desk (circulation@slavelakelibrary.ab.ca)

Items may be renewed twice unless there are reserves

How to Return Items

The library has a materials return chute which is open 24 hours per day, which is located on the south side of the library. The return bin inside the library, in the circulation desk is open whenever the library is open.

Fines

The library charges fines on overdue materials to encourage patrons to return items on time. Any fine revenue raised is added to the library's operating budget.

Fines are charged on late materials on a calendar day basis. Charges over the Library Board's set limit of $10 will result in the loss of borrowing and computer privileges. Library card registration is updated annually and any outstanding charges must be paid at that time.

Fines are charged on overdue materials up to a maximum amount per item. If materials are not returned once the maximum has been reached, a bill is issued. Bills include overdue charges plus the cost for material replacement. If materials are returned then the replacement costs are cancelled, leaving only overdue fines to be paid.

Reserving Items / Interlibrary Loans

If an item is out or "on order" you may reserve it by placing a "hold" on the item. You can do this by:

  • Accessing "My Account" located online in the library catalog. You will need your library membership barcode and your PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number).
  • At the library circulation desk
  • Phoning the library at 780-849-5250

Holds are held for 2 weeks then returned to the lending library.
